Scholarship program for individuals seeking Orton-Gillingham/Structured Literacy training to teach students with dyslexia
The goal of the AWLLS program is to award scholarships in the amount of $500 to individuals seeking IDA accredited Structured Literacy™ training. This program is not intended for use for attendance at professional conferences. Qualifications
- Applicant is seeking future training. Monetary awards will not be made to individuals for any training completed prior to the application date.
- Applicant is a current educator, school administrator, school psychologist, or practitioner (speech language pathologist, occupational therapist, tutor, literacy coach, reading interventionist, etc.) currently working with (or has the desire to work with) students who struggle learning to read, spell, and write.
- Applicant is working in a South Carolina public school district or private school or engaged in private tutoring.
- Applicant is working in a South Carolina public school district or private school or engaged in private tutoring.
- Applicant is a member of IDA and/or has volunteered at IDA-SC events.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Applicant is seeking initial Structured Literacy™ training, as opposed to advanced training.
- Applicant demonstrates passion for the promotion of dyslexia awareness.
Application Process
COVID-19 Update – Applications are now being accepted on a rolling basis with no deadline at this time.
AWLLS will be awarded on a rolling basis throughout the year. Monies will be disbursed to scholarship recipients following proof of payment and successful completion of an IDA accredited Structured Literacy™ training program. Awards will NOT be granted for any previous training completed prior to the date of the application.
A committee consisting of IDA-SC board members will review the applications. The committee reserves the right not to award any monies if the quality of the applications is insufficient. The decision of the committee is final.
International Dyslexia Association – South Carolina board members, their relatives, members of their household, employees or employers are not eligible to participate in or earn this scholarship.

The International Dyslexia Association (IDA) has an accreditation program that rigorously reviews educator preparation programs based on an accreditation model that is uniquely aligned with IDA’s Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading (KPS).
Scholarships will be awarded to individuals who have obtained training through the following IDA accredited Independent Teacher Training programs:
